MSA Security Presents at TINYg Counterterrorism Conference

Michael O’Neil (President, MSA Security) and Hugh O’Rourke (VP, Operations) were the featured speakers at the Terrorist Information New York Group’s (TINYg) 2011 Counterterrorism Conference on Monday, April 4, 2011.  In their brief, “Government Counterterrorism & Corporate Security: Common Tools for a Common Adversary,” Michael and Hugh spoke about how counterterrorism programs and practices from law enforcement and military have broadened tools and products for preventing catastrophic events in the corporate environment.  By layering an understanding of the strategic and tactical threats over identified vulnerabilities and using techniques developed in the public sector, it is possible to provide a truly robust security system.

Phil Rogan, Co-Chairman, TINYg, (and SVP, Regional Director-Bank of America Corporation) stated, “It was a tremendous benefit to have speakers with the quality and breadth of experiences as Michael and Hugh.  They have been key players in the New York metropolitan area counterterrorism effort as public and private actors and their contributions are widely recognized and appreciated.”

They also discussed the value of active surveillance detection to cap their brief.  A number of British counterterrorism professionals spoke at the conference on topics such as domestic terrorism in the UK and trends within al Qaeda.  The conference closed with an interesting talk on identifying hostile actors through forensic linguistics on captured communications.
