MSA Security/NJIT Hosts Organizational Resiliency and Security Symposium
NEW YORK, NY, April 1, 2011 – MSA Security, a specialized security company that serves as an industry leader in high consequence threat protection, in conjunction with NJIT and the NJ BEOC Alliance recently provided a half-day symposium on Organizational Resiliency and Security. Representing MSA, Patrick Devlin (Vice President, Consulting Services) and Matthew Dimmick (Director, Critical Infrastructure) both presented at the conference.
The symposium’s keynote speaker, Chief Joseph Morris (PAPD, ret.), began the program by discussing the planning that resulted from the 1993 World Trade Center Response through the response and recovery operations in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks. Following the keynote address, attendees separated into two distinct tracks.
Organizational Resilience Track
As part of the organizational resilience track, Matt Dimmick presented on “Private Sector Preparation and the Spread of Organizational Resilience”. Over the course of his presentation, Matt covered a broad scope of topics relating to building and maintaining a resilient organization. Topical areas covered included the convergence of responsibilities under current resiliency best practices, supply side planning, suggested PS Prep application priorities for small, midsized and large enterprises as well as governmental and NGOs, etc.
Robert Wright from Mutualink presented the topic of “Interoperability and Emergency Communications”. This session covered developments in the area of cost effective communications convergence, the importance and implementation of interoperability communications and emergency message development.
Security Track
Dr. Bob Banerjee transitioned over to the security track with his presentation covering “Comprehensive Identity Management.” He spoke about PSIM and Situational Awareness. His session closed with a flash demo on a public safety scenario which displayed how this technology can handle the logistics of securing a contaminated area.
Patrick Devlin closed up the symposium, speaking on the topic of the “Private Sector Response to Active Shooter Incidents.” This presentation discussed recent workplace violence and active shooter incidents. Patrick provided a summary of each incident, and strategies for prevention, including identifying threatening behavioral indicators, preparedness, response and recovery.
