MSA Security EDC Handler Aids in Arrest
NEW YORK, NY, July 16th, 2011 – At the Staten Island Ferry St. George Terminal today, MSA Security Explosive Detection Canine Handler, Joe Belcastro, helped local law enforcement detain a man who had allegedly committed a bank robbery at an East Village bank earlier in the week. During Belcastro’s routine screening of bicycle riders at the ferry, he noticed someone who resembled a picture he had seen in the NYPD Daily Blotter in the New York Post who was wanted for bank robbery. Once the man got onto the ferry, Belcastro notified the NYPD police detail at the terminal about who he thought the man was, and the NYPD radioed the police officer on the ferry to escort him off the ferry. The police were able to identify him as the suspect, and then he was taken into custody. He was taken to the 120th Precinct in Staten Island.
