A video emerged on a jihadist site featuring a message from Abu Yahya al-Libi, al Qaeda’s second ranking leader that was reportedly killed in a drone strike in Pakistan last week.  In the video, al-Libi called on jihadists living in Iraq, Jordan and Turkey to join the Syrian rebels in their fight against Bashar al-Assad’s regime.  A message posted on the site three days ago stated that a video featuring al-Libi would be released soon.

The release of the video was likely an attempt to deceive Western intelligence that al-Libi is indeed alive.  However, analysts assess the video was recorded prior to his death.
