In a new video posted to militant websites last night, al Qaeda's leader Ayman al-Zawahiri confirmed the death of his second-in-command, Abu Yahya al-Libi.  Al-Libi was killed by a drone strike in the North Waziristan tribal area of Pakistan along with 14 other militants on June 4, 2012.  Along with the death confirmation, Zawahiri called on Libyans to attack Americans to "avenge" al-Libi's death.  We have seen calls for retaliation following the deaths of other prominent leaders, including Osama bin Laden and Anwar al-Awlaki.

The MSA Research & Intelligence Analysis Team compiled an intelligence brief regarding al-Libi's death when it was first reported in June this year.  To read the team's analysis, please click here.
