A bomb exploded on a bus outside Tel Aviv, Israel on Sunday slightly injuring a police EOD technician. Passengers riding on a bus near Bat Yam observed an unattended black bag that no one had claimed. One of the passengers, opened the bag to find a clue as to the identity of the owner. However, when he opened the bag he saw red wires and a pressure cooker. The bus driver, Michael Yoger, immediately evacuated the bus and notified the authorities. The bomb detonated only ten minutes after the passengers were evacuated. Authorities did not have a chance to diffuse the explosive before the detonation. No group claimed responsibility for the bombing but Islamic Jihad praised the bombing as a revival to martyrdom attacks. A Hamas spokesman, Fawzi Barhoum, welcomed the attack but denied any involvement by Hamas.

The last bus bombing took place during November 2012 near the Defense Ministry compound in Tel Aviv. Since then peace negotiations resumed in July between Israel and Palestine after stalling. Tensions along the border of Gaza have been steadily rising as 20 Palestinians were killed along with four Israelis. Reprisals from the Israelis are likely, once the perpetrators of the attack are identified.
