The National Weather Service (NWS) is warning of a significant coastal storm expected to develop by midweek.  Late Tuesday night, an area of low pressure will be developing off the coast of Georgia.  This is forecasted to strengthen as it moves along the Carolina coast on Wednesday.  Into Thursday, it will continue to strengthen as it moves off the coast of New Jersey.  The NWS warns that potential impacts include wind gusts up to 50 mph, minor to moderate coastal flooding and heavy rain along coastal areas.  Wet snow is also expected across interior sections.  http://www.weather.gov/

The NWS issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the New York City boroughs, Long Island and Northeast New Jersey, including a High Wind Watch and Coastal Flood Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through late Wednesday night. http://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=NYZ072&warncounty=NYC061&firewxzone=NYZ072&local_place1=&product1=Hazardous+Weather+Outlook

This afternoon, NYC mayor, Michael Bloomberg stated, “With a potentially serious storm forecast later this week, our recovery work is all the more urgent.”  The high winds expected in this week’s storm could possibly destroy tree branches weakened by the hurricane.  The upcoming storm may also lead to an increase in energy demands, additional power outages and coastal flooding in areas already affected by Hurricane Sandy.
