Israel and Hamas have reached a cease-fire agreement that will take effect at 2:00p Eastern Standard Time this afternoon. There is no additional information regarding the conditions of the truce at this time. The cease-fire follows a bus bombing near Israel’s military headquarters in Tel Aviv that wounded 27 people. According to Israeli officials, terrorists planted two bombs on the bus and fled. Only one of the bombs detonated. Police have set up roadblocks throughout the city in an attempt to apprehend the attacker. A small, Damascus based militant group, The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, claimed responsibility for the bombing however there is speculation that they may not have carried out the attack. Although Hamas did not claim responsibility for the bombing, the group released a statement praising the attack and calling it “a natural response to the occupation crimes and the ongoing massacres against civilians in the Gaza strip.” At least 144 Palestinians and five Israelis have been killed since the onset of the violence.
