Demonstrations relating to the Israel-Palestine conflict continued world-wide over the past 24 hours. Approximately 130 individuals were arrested by the U.S. Capitol police for illegally demonstrating inside the Cannon House Office Building. In Santa Fe, NM, protesters disrupted Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s State of the State address. Additional demonstrations will likely continue at high-visibility locations, such as government buildings, residences of political figures, public events, and major thoroughfares. These demonstrations will likely result in arrests or clashes between law enforcement and counter-demonstrators. Protests will likely disrupt vehicular transportation near high-traffic buildings and have the potential to disrupt business operations and supply chains.

MSA Intel will continue to monitor the situation and provide relevant updates.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Avoid protest locations and large public gatherings, when possible.
  • Expect traffic disruptions throughout the area to continue until the demonstrations have concluded.
  • Do not engage with demonstrators as this could escalate the situation.
  • Follow all directions from authorities and law enforcement.
  • Monitor local news for reports of demonstrations or other disruptions
  • Monitoring social media or online forums and acting upon credible threats and trends will allow security details and site managers to adequately prepare to deter any threats.
  • Have a proactive plan in place to deter criminal activity while protecting employees and assets. Considerations include:
    • Procuring additional security assets to augment existing teams.
    • Conducting security system tests to ensure all systems are fully operational.
    • Creating an evacuation plan in the event of widespread civil unrest or other events that could jeopardize safety.
    • Reviewing key control and all emergency protocols with members of the organization.
    • Reviewing cyber best practices (ensuring systems have the most current updates, compatible devices use multi-factor authentication, etc.) with members across the organization.
